Myspace.com has millions of users and therefore millions of profile pages. Take a look at your friends list, to begin with it will be small, but if you choose to do so, over time it will undoubtedly grow and grow.
Myspace.com profiles are just like any other webpage, they can earn a page rank.
Take a look at your friend list, if a profile is new it will certainly not have a page rank, however there will be plenty of your “friends” that will have a Page Rank of 1,2,3 or higher.
These pages are valid pages to gain links from and yes, it is easy to gain a link on these pages. How? By taking advantage of the comment feature on the profiles.
Myspace.com allows users to add comments (or messages) onto their “friends” profile for the friend and everybody else (depending on the user’s settings) to see.
There are two main advantages of adding a link to your website using Myspace comments.
Firstly comments left on Myspace.com profiles are a good way of building up back links to your website.
The second advantage is that comments can lead to your website being crawled by search engine spiders and robots. Myspace.com is undoubtedly currently one of the most popular websites, which is updated constantly by its users. This will encourage spiders to visit the website, as they crawl from profile to profile, they will reach your website via a comment you have left on a page. The more times they reach your page, the more frequently they will return to your page.
When leaving comments, it is not advisable that you should only leave comments on profile pages that have a high page rank. Instead you could judge the profiles credentials for the task in hand by the number of “friends” that the person who owns the profile has. The more friends means more links pointing to that page, which in turn will increase the likelihood of a search engine spider or robot arriving at that page and in turn, your website.
There is an option for Myspace users to disable html coding in any comments that people leave, if this is the case there will be an alert advising you of this when you are about to enter your comment. If this is the case, move on to the next person on your friends list.
What to do:
The easiest (and most used) message to leave is something along the lines of “thanks for adding me”. Add a text link to your website beneath this message and press submit.
Of course if your website has related content to the profile you are posting a comment on, you could always try and disguise the fact you are simply looking to build back links and try to lure the profile user into thinking you are genuinely offering them a relevant and useful website to visit.
What not to do:
As a general rule, it is advisable not to post large images to your message. Large images sometimes force page dimensions to be disrupted resulting in the profile looking misshapen.
If the profile owner sees this, they are likely to remove your comment. The other obvious danger of leaving images is if the profile owner doesn’t like your image and considers it to be an eye sore, they are far more likely to delete your comment.
Taking a little bit of time to add comments on your “friends” profile can result in a high amount of back links to your website. Myspace.com is a sociable, networking website, you are interacting and networking with other users!
