There is a large debate amongst the so called search engine optimisation elite over whether Blogging or article writing is more beneficial in your SEO campaign.

A web log (Blog) is a method of getting your message or option across in a less formal, personal way. On the other hand, articles are usually considered to be a more informative and accurate source of information.
From a search engine optimisation perspective, both are a great source of information. But which one should be used for better SEO?

This is a hard question to answer, as it depends on what you wish to achieve from a website. A better method is to evaluate what each of the forms of displaying information brings.

Blogs: A Blog an informal diary of events or thoughts which are generally updated on a frequent basis.  A Blog is certainly considered to be more personal, but often thought to have an “inside point of view”.

Articles: Articles on the other hand are considered (well they should be!) an informative, authorities and detailed method of portraying information on a particular subject.

From a readership and following perspective, a well written, maintained and ultimately an informative Blog will be more effective than a series of articles.

However, unless your Blog is established and highly ranked in the search engines, it is more than likely that articles will get more exposure.  Effective marketing of high quality articles will result in your articles being reproduced on other, more often than not, higher ranked websites which will then seen by more people.

It is thought by people in the SEO and web marketing field that articles help re-enforce what you are selling and that more thought and attention is put into writing it.  This perception results in a reader believing that the information being presented to them is of a higher worth.

People know that a Blog will have a personal point of view, whether its promoting or even demoting something that they have a personal or professional interest in.

Many webmasters have reported greater success with the use of articles as apposed to a stand alone Blog.  This would suggest that if your website or product is new, it is more beneficial to use articles of a means of promotion.

However if you have an already prominent Blog, or are able to network with similar Blogs, you can gain a lot of exposure very quickly.

Both of these methods of SEO and marketing are well thought of in the current market, your decision should be based upon your websites goals.
