Posted by Jon as Link Building
Whilst trying to expand my mind the other day , I discovered a fairly interesting article that advised having more than 100 links on any page would set Google’s alarm bells ringing and would ultimately lead to the page being blacklisted.
While I believe there is some truth to this theory, sites which incorporate a random Free For All links page for example are likely to be considered “link farms”.
Free For All Links should always be avoided for Search Engine Optimisation purposes, the links aren’t going to be relevant, meaning they will do you and your website no favours.
However, if the important aspect of relevant link building is followed, it’s hard to see how your beloved website could be penalised. After all, there could be an unlimited amount of websites relating to your chosen topic.
An example of relevant linking could be a football site. The page could have every player who plays in the league listed, complete with links to biographies and statistics. That would be a lot of links, but all of which will be relevant, and to unique content.
If the rules have been followed, a search Engine won’t penalise the webmaster.
A good aspect of the online world to remember is that the Internet is growing at such a rate that it’s very conceivable that the search engines will never be able to index every website. The more websites being published means that there is more content to link to and more for search engine spiders to find.
If you’re trying to build on your search engine optimisation campaign, forget about any 100 link limit that you’ve read or heard about. Go ahead, exchange and link with as many relevant websites as possible.
